Max Holloway Believes He Can Earn Title Shot Vs Islam Makhachev With Win At UFC 300

Max Holloway believes he can fight for the title if he defeats Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.

On April 13th, Holloway will face off against the highly ranked lightweight in Gaethje for the BMF title in a fight that could have title implications.

During an interview with Kevin Iole, Holloway said that he thinks a title shot could be imminent with a win vs Gaethje.

“If I can go out there and get my hand raised… there’s a lot of fights that can be there for us. One of them being the [155 pound] champ which I think would be a fun one.”

UFC lightweight champ Islam Makhachev‘s future is a bit more unclear. With several top lightweight contenders fighting at UFC 300, Islam has recently called out Dustin Poirier.

“I wasn’t 100 percent. But I told them in March I will be ready. But they say, ‘In March, we don’t have any options.’ I said, ‘OK, I have the belt. Just give someone. I will be ready.’”

“I know Dustin does not deserve the title fight, but we don’t have any option right now,” Makhachev said. “Everybody is busy. I want to fight. I want to fight three times this year. I have to call out someone, and Poirier is free now.”

It’s unclear if Makhachev will fight the winner of Holloway/Gaethje or Oliviera/Tsarukyan next or if Poirier will jump the line with his big win at UFC 299.
