Dustin Poirier is firing back at Islam Makhachev.
Last week, the 155-pound champ Makhachev told MMA Junkie that he didn’t think Poirier deserved a title shot but believed that he would fight him because the division is tied up with Justin Gaethje fighting Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira taking on Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300.
Poirier did not seem happy with the slight and responded to Makhachev’s comments.

“That’s on him,” “I’ve done more in the sport of mixed martial arts than he has. I’ve been around a long time. I was doing this before it was cool, and I’m still here. Still here doing it at the highest level. I can beat anybody in the world, and I hope he’s next.”
While he did get dissed by Makhachev, Poirier would welcome the opportunity to fight for the title.
“One hundred percent that’s what I want,” Poirier said. “If I could pick a fight, the title fight – that’s my choice. That’s what I want.”
Poirier last fought at UFC 299 where he knocked out Benoit St. Denis in impressive fashion.
It’ll be interesting to see if he gets the title shot next.
